there are every year some Amphiumas and Sirens imported to Germany. This one was found in a pet shop and bought. I wish to keep such one myself someday too, but ma cheri says "No"

really beautiful species! and strange! it eats very big bits of food, it's impressive!
just for information, how much does this species cost in Germany?
and as Virginie&Chris said, in France, this species is only authorised for people having a special authorisation...

Hi,

when you buy that species at the wholesaler you pay ~30 - 50€ - this one was for sale for 130€ in the pet shop.

This animal has a length of about 80cm and is a real master of escaping. The tank must be secured by heavy stones on the lid...

80cm??? wahou!! i can hardly imagine the size of the tank!!!

I guess you need a huge tank also. 130€ sounds cheao for a such animal.

no it does not :-) True, both are very elongated and live in water, but Siren has outer gills, while Amphiuma has Lungs, in addition, Siren has only two legs - Amphiuma has 4 ;-)
